Special Limited Edition - Rare Archival Sources ......LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI CONDUCTS 'LIVE"

Each Stokowski Music CD-R (which plays on regular CD or DVD Players) features up to 79 minutes of elegantly hosted radio broadcasts from a golden era that bloomed over a half century ago. Enjoy the sound and ambience of a Leopold Stokowski concert from a lost era in radio broadcasting. Many have announcements to introduce and bridge each section, there is even an occasional intermission segment. This is a direct analogue transfer process carefully done from either Italian or Canadian tape sources done many decades ago. Each disc captures sound far more warm and rich than is frequently heard through filtered digital processing (which can remove as much musicality as surface noise). No attempt has been made to edit any content out of these discs of the broadcasts. So travel back with us to the earlier half of the last century and imagine what it must have been like to hear these broadcasts on your large floor standing AM tube radio from an easy chair in your living room. The CD-R itself is not annotated. A Very limited supply. Caution: The sound on these discs is not represented to be up to modern fidelity standards and there is surface noise and very occasional radio static.

LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI 1882 - 1977 How does one approach the near impossible task of describing the unique talent of one of the few greatest conductors of the 20th Century? For example, the equally legendary figures of Toscanini and Furtwangler are usually compared in terms of their choice of tempi. In a sense, Stokowski exists apart from such elemental comparison, his musical visions emerge through tone, orchestration and phrasing. His instrumental colors flow with a unique effect on our soul. Despite the fact he was born in London in 1882 and died in England in 1977, his soft and nearly mystical way of speaking seemed to be as hypnotic as his musicianship. From 1912 till 1940 much of his energies was in Philadelphia, which reached its peak under his direction. After 1940, he had associations with just about every great orchestra, including some of his own creation. During the late 1930's and 40's he helped create and appeared in Hollywood films as his public legend grew. He did not use a baton, in 1976 he said "The eyes, I conduct with my eyes." "I would like to go on living for ever and ever, making music all the time." Let us hope, in some small way, we hold this promise true with our series of CD's devoted to his "live" performances.
